Sibling rivalry….

Katrina | September 30, 2008 | 10:56 pm

I ordered my brother’s birthday present yesterday. It will arrive in the morning. His birthday isn’t until November, but in my “condition”, I have to be organised.

I bought him a graphic tablet, he does random artistic things… and I thought it would be fun.

And of course, I’m TOTALLY trying it out when it arrives. I made the mistake of telling him this.

So, he went and called Pa and totally ratted on me.

The problem is, he wants to use it before his birthday. He’s working on a project that involves art and fruitcake.

So, I called Pa too and ratted him out.

Pa is no longer taking any calls.

J and I are both in our 30s. Will we ever grow up?

Poor Banane…

Katrina | September 28, 2008 | 9:54 pm

I had a really scary moment.

I thought our dog, Banane, was going to die.

This is Banane. He fell awkwardly today, and couldn’t stand, couldn’t get up. And then went into a fit. Which, I have to say, is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. He didn’t yelp, he didn’t cry, we had no idea of where he was hurt.

Thankfully, he’s recovered, and will be seeing a vet tomorrow. We’d have gone today, but shortly after I called them in hysterics, Banane bounced back. All smiley of mouth and waggy of tail.

Will update you all on his progress. Was a really scary moment.

There’s no time!

Katrina | September 25, 2008 | 12:27 am

So, I’m expecting twins in January.

In reality, they’ll come in December.

December is Christmas. I’ll be too big to move, in fact, I’m already making plans to be rolled to the hospital.

When am I going to get Christmas shopping done?

November? Will I be able to stand going out in November?

October is the birthday of Barney (5) and Jack (9) and RH (33).

September is nearly through….

I’m running out of time.

I’ve got my wedding dress for next year, it arrived this morning, and it’s amazing. I just need to take it to a costumier to be shortened.

I’ve already got birthday gifts for Jack and Barney.

I have NO idea what to get RH.

I have one Christmas gift for Indigo. I just have no idea how or when I’m going to do all this stuff!

More politics….

Katrina | September 24, 2008 | 11:32 pm

So, you’ve had my views on the politics across the border. (Vote Obama!)

But so far, I’ve not put forward my view on what’s happening in my own dear country.

We’re having a general election, our parliament is to be dissolved, and we’re going to the polls.

And the reason I haven’t really written about it is that…. no one really cares.

Stephen Harper is our Prime Minister, and he’s an idiot. A Conservative idiot, in a minority Government.

And he’s called an election, only 2 years after the last one.

Where all the parties stand:

Party view comparisons

The 33 Worst Celebrity Baby Names: Cautionary tales from Audio Science to Zuma Nesta Rock.: “”

I love trashy gossip websites. I can’t get enough.

I love celebrities giving their kids weird names. Sure we slag them off, but wouldn’t you be really disappointed if they called their kid Michael? Unless of course it’s Michael Jackson, who called them ALL Michael. Or George Foreman, whose kids are all called George…

Update

Katrina | | 12:01 am

Both babies have names. You’ll know what they are when we send out the birth announcement.

Theme? Scrapped. We’re going for toasted almond walls, with dark panels, on which will be the children’s (and dog’s) hand and footprints, in metallics and pale colors that go with toasted almond.

I bought the paint because the name sounded yum.

What’s that chocolate bar with toasted almond in?

I have major migraine, and am going back to bed with Ed McBain.

Tits

Katrina | September 21, 2008 | 3:11 am

It’s a contentious issue, and I guess it shouldn’t be.

My little brother (all 6ft4 of him) is painting the nursery, and has been sketching out ideas for themes.

We’re having a boy and a girl, so finding a gender neutral theme is tough. Most baby things seem to be over-Disneyfied, and to be honest, Disney freaks me out. Giant sized rodents, pant-less ducks, creatures that…. look like a cross between cows and humans… *shudder*

To me, Disney sums up what’s wrong with the world. It’s artificial, commercialised, plasticised, and just plain WRONG

So, little brother J has sketched out a piratey/sea scene, with mermaids on rocks.

The mermaids are all hair, tits and tails, as mermaids are.

How appropriate is this in a nursery?

PROS:

  • gives RH something to look at while changing diapers
  • is it wrong to introduce censorship at such a young age?
  • it’s not like the babies will have never seen tits. They’ll be breast fed until they get teeth. Boobs = dinner

CONS:

  • boobs in a baby-room?
  • OMG, by objecting, I’m turning conservative. Shoot me.

All thoughts welcome.

Baby naming

Katrina | September 18, 2008 | 2:07 am

“Why don’t you write more about your pregnancy?”

I’ve been asked that.

The answer?

Because I’m boring my close friends and family with it, I don’t feel the need to bore random internet people with it too…

I’m Kat. I happen to be pregnant. It’s not the defining moment of my entire life. It doesn’t change who I am. It just changes my shape. And my taste. And I can no longer watch movies without sobbing like a bitch. Yes, even the Muppets Taking Manhattan had me wailing.

But…. we have a problem. We just can not settle on a name for our daughter. The one yet to be born, that is. The one we already have is already named.

On the list so far:

Amélie (Amélie-melo…. Un méli-melo - a muddle, a mix up, a mistake)
Holly (or ‘Olly)
Evangeline (Evie, Evan, Vani….)
Pandora (NO!)
Estella (Yes, Miss Haversham?)
Isabella (Ugh)
Orlaith (pronounced Orla/Ola)

Jane and John Doe, anyone?
