No Logo

10 years ago, I picked up a copy of Naomi Klein’s No Logo. At the time, Jack was a baby, my life was about 1 cause after another, and No Logo fitted in to my personal politik.
I’d never been in a Starbucks, I hate Disney (it really freaks me out).
Radiohead recommended the book [...]

Millennium, Part 3

Millennium Part 3 AKA The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest AKA Castles In The Sky arrived this morning, from England where it has now been published.
The Millennium Series is quite possibly one of the more intelligent writings of recent years; I have documented before on this blog my love of these books.
The [...]

An interesting twist… after the death of Stieg Larsson, whose books highlight the injustices women face in Sweden, his girlfriend inherits NOTHING, as they weren’t married.

Download and read. It’s beautiful.

The power of books…

So, I had a book sent to me from England, because I couldn’t find it here. Stieg Larsson – a Swedish journalist – wrote a trilogy of books, I’m currently reading the second.
And it’s tearing me apart.
The first book blew me away, and the repercussions from that book are felt across the second, [...]

Wait… You’re not Nic Costa…

Further to my discussion on Audiobooks, I discovered one of the downsides…
I listen a lot to David Hewson’s Nic Costa series, narrated by Saul Reichlin.
I haven’t Googled Mr Reichlin, because I fear that knowing him as more than just a voice will affect how I hear the stories he tells.
In my head, his [...]

On a re-reading trip…

Listening to the Audiobook version of Andrew Davidson’s The Gargoyle.
It’s the third time of reading/listening to it as a punter, and even more things are clicking into place.
It still makes me sigh.
The tagline – Love is strong as death, as hard as hell – has never seemed more appropriate.

For the love of Audiobooks…

When I got my first iPod, I was so excited that I could carry round all my music, and listen to a random selection at the touch of a button. No more clanky CD players, no more expired batteries….
In talking to a colleague at the time, she was more excited about the prospect of audio [...]

Download: Pattern Recognition

Playable on iTunes / iPods, this is the audio book version of William Gibson’s novel “Pattern Recognition”; a book I will never get bored of listening to (or reading).

One for St Valentine’s Day

So, I hate flowers and romantic gestures. In my opinion, there is no worse genre of literature than romance. From historical bodice rippers to chick lit to Mills & Boon, it’s all the same trite story.
So, when I was given the task of making a first edit on a book by an unknown Canadian author’s [...]
